Travel 1 Km along a geological fissure following a river flanked by weeping rock walls !
Carved into volcanic rock by the Macho de Monte River, this dramatic geological fissure is located in Cuesta de Piedra, roughly 45 minutes from Boquete in the western highlands of Chiriquí, Panama. Formed over 600 years ago following the last eruption of the Barú Volcano, the canyon features towering 30-meter walls, crystal-clear natural pools, and numerous waterfalls.
This high-adrenaline, half-day journey takes you through a 1-kilometer stretch of "weeping" rock walls where spring water gushes directly from the stone.
This is a tour traversing a cloud forest of century-old trees and waterfalls where at anytime you may encounter fog and the gentle rain we call bajareque. The wildlife within the treetops is immense and varied making it possible to appreciate our native species of small animals and birds; with a bit of luck you may even get the chance to see monkeys and the famed quetzal. In addition, you can marvel at sight of the great variety of orchids and wildflowers that you will find throughout the area.
Access to the canyon is located near a local hydroelectric plant, approximately 12 kilometers south of Volcán. The entrance involves a steep, slippery trail descent. Due to the technical terrain and the high risk of flash floods, hiring a certified guide is strongly recommended for all visitors.
The harness will support 2,000 pounds (907 Kg) and the cable will support 10,000 pounds (4536 Kg).
